The cover feature of the upcoming WCI Issue 5 is Sifu Garry McKenzie. Sifu McKenzie, otherwise known as Abdul Malik (Servant of the King) by fellow Muslims, or Ma Ga Lik (Abundance of Power) to those in China, gives you the impression of a classical fighter: fit, serious, with an impenetrable look, but as soon he starts talking, you realise he is also a gentle, funny, insightful and humble person. Sifu McKenzie teaches at The Wing Chun School headquarters in Hackney, north-east London, as well as privately. His martial arts training began in 1976 with Taekwondo, and then later with Western Boxing. He became a student of Sifu Simon Lau in 1982, aged 17, at the Wing Chun Martial Arts Academy. In 1994, Sifu McKenzie began studying the Cantonese dialect of Chinese, which brought him into contact with a number of Wing Chun masters who could not speak English. This led to invitations to train in Hong Kong, where he completed his training under the tutelage of Sifu Ip Ching, the youngest son of the late Grandmaster Ip Man.
